Does Algeria have an e-visa?
Algeria has no general online tourist e-visa of the kind Turkey or Kenya operate. Applications are made on paper at an Algerian embassy or consulate, though some missions now use online appointment booking or form pre-filling. Treat any site selling an 'Algeria e-visa' with caution.
This is one of the most common false starts in planning an Algerian trip. Travellers search for an e-visa, find a commercial site that appears to offer one, pay a fee, and receive nothing that a consulate will accept.
Algeria has no general electronic tourist visa. The tourist visa is a consular process: a paper file, submitted to the Algerian embassy or consulate that covers your place of residence, with a physical sticker placed in your passport. Some missions have modernised the front end — online appointment slots, downloadable or partially pre-filled forms, courier return of passports — but the decision and the visa itself remain consular.
Two things follow. First, be sceptical of any website that promises an “Algeria e-visa” for a fee; at best these are form-filling services charging for a free PDF, and the consulate has no obligation to recognise them. Go directly to the official mission for your country. Second, budget real calendar time — see how long does an Algeria visa take? — because there is no same-week online shortcut to fall back on.
The one genuine exception to the advance-visa rule is the organised tour that includes the Sahara, with the visa issued at Algiers airport, covered in can I get an Algeria visa on arrival?. Everything else runs through the process described in our Algeria visa guide.
